Controller – FL

job description:

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations in Florida. This position allows for partial remote work, with the expectation of a minimum of 50% travel to all locations within the sate of Florida. The controller will handle high-level accounting, managerial accounting, and oversee the financial activities of the company. As head of the accounting department, the controller will manage and supervise all aspects of accounting from payroll to tax compliance. Will report to the US Regional Controller – East and will assist with the development of internal control policies, procedures, and financial planning as needed.

Accountabilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the accounting department including general ledger activity, accounts payable, cash, inventory and warehouse activities, accounting policies and procedures.
  • Manage multiple legal entities? month end closing and reporting.
  • Develop functional and managerial P&L for division managers, distribute and review financial trends, variances, and cost control opportunities.
  • Manage, , train and mentor the accounting staff, including cross training;
  • Provide direction, support, and guidance to ensure all general accounting functions and transactions in the division are accurate, and timely; implement best accounting practices; ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements of company;
  • Manage banking relationships and develop strong cash controls
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements; budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, financial reporting; working with the Director of Finance to ensure G.A.A.P., IFRS, state and excise tax compliance, evaluate current dashboard reporting if in existence and revise as appropriate;
  • Business and financial analysis to support the business needs; general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing services
  • Oversee and manage the financial and regulatory audit processes and delivery, on time, externally and internally;
  • Assess and make recommendations for improvement to accounting processes; oversee implementation of purchasing, product costing, category management, and reporting;
  • Work with outside consultants to implement a new ERP solution to complement or replace Quick Books;
  • Strong accounting software skills; QuickBooks and ERP experience required.
  • Manage projects and provide ad hoc analysis as needed.
  • Experience in cannabis industry perferred

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office required
  • Experience with financial accounting systems
  • Light travel required including occasional overnight stays

qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or professional accreditation such as certified public accountant (CPA), certified management accountant (CMA) or chartered global management accountant (CGMA) preferred
  • CPA required- Have a CPA Previous experience at a public accounting firm
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance a must
  • Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or professional accreditation such as certified public accountant (CPA), certified management accountant (CMA) or chartered global management accountant (CGMA) preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • 5 – 8 years of progressive accounting experience in an entrepreneurial, publicly traded, fast growth space; startup like feel; multi-divisional, multi-state experience, as a Controller or Assistant Controller ready for the next step; excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical skills and is a relationship and team builder.
  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to manage and develop others effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented with solid organizational skills and ability to prioritize competing demands.
